Prof. Klaus Von Klitzing, who is a Nobel Prize winner in physics, a director of the Max-Planck Institut fuer Festkorperforschung in Stuttgart, and an Einstein Professor of Chinese Academy of Sciences, had a visit to Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO), CAS from April 8th to 12th.

Accompanied by Prof. YANG Hui, Director of SINANO, Prof. Von Klitzing visited the exhibition hall, the Nanofabrication Facility, Platform for Characterization & Test, Nano-Win Company, MBE & MOCVD Lab, Nano-carbon Tube Lab, Organic Synthesis Lab and Printable Electronics Research Center of SINANO. During his visit, Prof. Von Klitzing had an extensive discussion with research staff in respective laboratories. Besides, Prof. Von Klitzing also concerns about Chinese students' studies, especially in research fields. Thus, he held a symposium at SINANO and especially introduced his research on the two-dimensional electron gas and integer quantum Hall Effect he discovered. Afterwards, Prof. Von Klitzing gave satisfied answers of students' questions.

On April 11th, Prof. Von Klitzing held a lecture on "The Quantum Leap from Micro- to Nanoelectronics" on the 47th Lakeside Forum. During the forum, he also answered questions about the achievement transfer, relationship between basic and industrial research, and how to discover the new quantum Hall Effect from MOSFET in low temperature and high magnetic fields. Besides, Prof. YANG Hui awarded him as the Einstein Professorship of CAS.

About Prof. Klaus von Klitzing
Prof. Klaus von Klitzing (28 June 1943 in Schroda) is a German physicist known for discovery of the integer quantum Hall Effect, for which he was awarded the 1985 Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1962, von Klitzing passed the Abitur at Artland Gymnasium in Quakenbrück, Germany, before studying physics at the Braunschweig University of Technology, where he received his diploma in 1969. He continued his studies at the University of Würzburg, completing his PhD thesis Galvanomagnetic Properties of Tellurium in Strong Magnetic Fields in 1972, and habilitation in 1978. This work was performed at the Clarendon Laboratory in Oxford and the Grenoble High Magnetic Field Laboratory in France, where he continued to work until becoming a professor at the Technical University of Munich in 1980. Von Klitzing has been a director of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart since 1985. Today, von Klitzing's research focuses on the properties of low-dimensional electronic systems, typically in low temperatures and in high magnetic fields.
