Abstract:
Magic number C60-Au complexes have been assembled on the Au(111) surface and imaged with the low-temperaturescanning tunneling microscope. These complexes have a unique structure consisting of a single atomic layer Au island encapsulated by a self-selected number, seven, ten, and twelve, e.g., of C60 molecules. The smallest structure consisting of 7 C60 molecules and 19 Au atoms, stable up to 400 K, behaves like a giant molecule with a preferred orientation on the surface. This study uncovers a new strategy for surface-based nano-fabrication with an exceptional high degree of accuracy.

Dr.Guo received Bachelor of Engineering in Tsinghua University from 1979 to 1984.He received PhD in Physics in Lancaster University from 1985 to 1989.He worked as Post doctoral Research Assistant in Chemistry Department, Liverpool University from 1989 to 1993.He worked as Post doctoral Research Associate, IRC in Surface Science, Liverpool University from 1993 to 1997.He worked as Post doctoral Research Associate,in Department of Chemistry, Salford University from 1997 to 1998.He worked as a lecturer in School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham from 1998 to 2003.He worked as a senior lecturer in School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham in October,2003.
