On December 21th, 2013, Prof. Iijima was invited to visit Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech &Nano-bionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SINANO). Prof. Iijima was the discoverer of carbon nanotube (CNT), a world renowned specialist in electron microscopy (SEM) and a foreign academician of Chinese academy of sciences.
Although his schedule was very tight in China, Prof. Iijima still gladly accepted the invitation by Prof. Yuegang Zhang, the director of International Laboratory (i-lab). Prof. Iijima listened to the report and exchanged academic ideas with the researchers from i-lab.Then the researchers showed Prof. Iijima around the laboratory. Prof. Iijima produced valued suggestion about scientific research to researchers at the presence, combining with his own experiences.
Biography:
Prof. Iijima was one of the founders of the high-resolution electron microscopy; In 1991, he announced the observation of CNT in nature, which became the prologue to the study of the one-dimensional nanomaterials. His paper was cited more than ten thousand times in this field. He made great contribution to the promotion of nano-science and nano-technology development. Prof. Iijima's pioneering work and his active research laid him the leading position in nano science and technology. Prof. Iijima was a good friend of Chinese people. he made important contributions to the Chinese nanotechnology promotion and the electron microscopy development.
