Prof. Stéphane Mangin and Prof. Yuan Lu from the Institute Jean Lamour visited Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SINANO) on February 16th, 2016。Besides a scientific talk on "Magnetization manipulation: Toward new magnetic data storage " presented by Prof. Mangin, they also introduced the Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) tube built in Institute Jean Lamour.
Le TUBE (Interconnection under Ultra-high vacuum of Chambers for Elaboration, and Characterization for Novel Materials) is a unique tool that combines a wide range of specific thin film deposition/growth, analysis, and post-deposition treatment techniques, which all connected under UHV environment. With this novel technique, various materials are grown, controlled and characterized in UHV environment (with a partial pressure of as low as 10-10 torr), in order to avoid fatal contamination. This is the main reason why scientific and technological breakthrough will be possible only in UHV interconnected tools. Based on the similar motivation, an even larger and more comprehensive UHV-interconnected system (Nano-X) is under construction at SINANO. Therefore, scientists and engineers from both Institutes had a very detailed and heated discussion on related research projects and vacuum technologies. At the end, Prof. Mangin and Prof. Lu suggested strongly to further enhance the exchange between the two groups and to explore more collaborations in multiple areas. The visiting was very successful and fruitful.
