Prof.David Cumming from the University of Glasgow visited SINANO and was employed as the distinguished fellow of CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative.

Prof. David R. S. Cumming, the head of School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow (UK), visited SINANO for one week from June 30 to July 6. On July 3, the awarding ceremony for Prof. Cumming as the distinguished fellow of CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) was hold in SINANO. Prof. Cumming was invited to give an academic report after the ceremony. Prof. YANG Hui, the head of SINANO, Prof. DING Sunan, the deputy derector of NANO-X, and Prof. CHEN Qin from the Division of Nanodevices received Prof. Cumming and host this ceremony.
In the ceremony, Prof. CHEN Qin made a speech to welcome this academic visit first. He also introduced the cooperation history with Prof. Cumming between the two-side groups in some research areas. Prof. YANG Hui presented the certificate of PIFI to Prof. Cumming. A special souvenir of the University of Glasgow was given to Prof. YANG Hui by Prof. Cumming. Then Prof. Cumming made a report titled “Semiconductor, meta- and nano-photonics for imaging applications”. He introduced some works by his group on integrated image sensors functioned in visible, mid-IR, and terahertz regime at the same time by CMOS technology, as well as the achievements and progress in the area of Nanophotonics.
After the ceremony, Prof. Cumming was invited to visit the labs of the Division of Nanodevices, Nano fabrication Facility, and NANO-X. Prof. CHEN Qin briefly introduced SINANO to him from the aspect of the development history, principal research fields, research teams and some important progresses made by SINANO. Prof. Cumming spoke highly to the labs and the research achievements of SINANO. From July 4 to July 6, Prof. Cumming gave another academic reports in the conference room of the Division of Nanodevices and exchanged ideas with the audiences. He had an informal discussion with Prof. WANG Hong on the cooperation possibility and prospect in ISFET biological applications. Moreover, He held a small workshop with the group members of Prof. CHEN Qin. He offered many valuable suggestions to the researchers and students in this group, after heard their reports on their special research topics.
Prof. Cumming was selected as the distinguished fellow of CAS PIFI. He is a famous scholar in the field of electronics, with the title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Fellow of IEEE. He is presently the head of the School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow with 120 academic staff and a turnover of £37m. He has prominent contribution for the applications of CMOS to bio-sensing.
