Mr. Ming Hsieh, Board member of the University of Southern California, visited SINANO

On July 8th, 2011, Mr. Ming Hsieh, board member of the University of Southern California, CEO of the Cogent Systems Inc. and board member of the Being Advanced Memory Corp. (BAMC) was invited to visit Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO). Prof. CHEN Liwei, the Deputy Director of SINANO, Prof. XU Ke, the Assistant Director, Prof. CHENG Guosheng and Prof. ZHANG Jinping gave a warm welcome to Mr. Ming Hsieh for his visit.

Mr. Ming Hsieh first visited the SINANO’s exhibition hall and impressed by the significant achievements on the research progress and the high-level faculty teams acquired by the SINANO within these 5 years. And then accompanied by Prof. Jinping Zhang, Mr. Ming Hsieh visited the microscope laboratory of the Platform for Characterization and Test and highly commended the core technological role played by the public platform on the service of scientific researches and industrial innovations.

About Mr. Ming Hsieh:
Mr. Ming Hsieh is a famous Chinese-American entrepreneur, board member of the University of Southern California (USC), member of the Committee of 100, founder and CEO of the Cogent Systems Inc.(Global 500) and philanthropist. He was admitted to the South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology), and in 1980, he transferred to the Department of Electronic Engineering in the USC where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1983 and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering in 1984. In 1990, he founded the Cogent Inc.
, which revolutionized automated fingerprint identification. In 2006, Mr. Ming Hsieh donated $35 million to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering to endow the Department of Electrical Engineering, which was named in his honor. This is the first time in USC’s history that a department was named after a Chinese. Mr. Ming Hsieh’s charity greatly enhanced the reputation of the Chinese in the United States and he was elected to enroll in the Committee of 100. In 2010, Mr. Ming Hsieh donated another $50 million to USC to support the research and development in the field of nanomedicine for cancer.
