From October 17th to 19th, 2011, the 2nd Sino-German Symposium was held at Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics (SINANO), CAS, which was co-organized by SINANO and University of Technical Braunschweig, Germany. Over 30 experts from Germany, Spain, US and China attended the workshop. The theme of the symposium is "Semiconductor Nano-devices and Their Applications in Optoelectronics and Bio-/chemical sensors".

Sponsored by China-Germany Science Foundation Research Center (funded by NSFC and DFG), the 1st symposium was held in Berlin, Germany last year. On the basis of the first, the current session fully discussed the status of nano science development and application prospects, especially in the field of semiconductor nitrides such as the preparation and characterization of one-dimensional nanostructure of nitrides semiconductor materials and application prospects in optoelectronic and biochemical sensors. During the three-day symposium, the experts had an in-depth discussion on existing problems of the field in the development, and proposed some solutions. Besides, they also inspired new ideas and opportunities of cooperation.

The symposium provided an interactive platform for the scientists from both China and Germany, where they can fully share their research, exchange ideas and strengthen communications, laying the foundation for further cooperation.
