Prof. Hua-Zhong Yu from Simon Fraser University was visited by Prof. Renjun Pei to visit SINANO on Dec. 19th, 2016, and presented a scientific report on the topic of “Repurposing Blu-ray Technology: From High-resolution Imaging to Molecular Diagnostics”.

Professor Yu introduced his research on the DNA surface chemical, aptamer electronic sensor, CD biological analysis and so on. One of his major works of bioDiscs was read quantitatively with standard computer drives or stand-alone disc players without any modifications to the hardware and software driver. The journal of Nature commended this work as human can listen themselves DNA in CD. During the whole report, Prof. Yu presented his research results humorously. After the report finished, Prof. Yu exchanged with researchers and student present and answer related questions.

Prof. Yu received his B.S. and M.S. degree from Shandong University in 1991, and Ph.D. degree from Peking University in 1994 under Professor Zhongfan Liu. He is currently a professor of Simon Fraser University.
