Abstract:

Topological material is a new kind of matterwith time reversalsymmetry and novel quantum states and has become one of thehottesttopics in condensed-matter physics. In this talk, I will first discuss some quantum transport experiments including Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations, weak anti-localization effect, and electron-electron interaction of surface electrons in 3D topological insulator Bi2Se3 and Bi2Te3.Then, I will report ourrecentobservation of the negative magnetoresistancein parallel magnetic and electric fields, manifestation of the chiral anomaly, in topological Dirac semimetal Cd3As2. Finally, I will briefly describe our research on superconducting proximity effect in topologicalinsulator/superconductors (Bi2Te3/Nb and Bi2Se3/NbSe2) hybrid structures.

Bio:

Prof. Jiannong Wang obtained herB.Eng. degree at Xian Jiao Tong University in China in 1982, M.Phil. degree at Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Science in 1986, and Ph.D. degree at H.H.Wills Physics Laboratory/Physics Department at theUniversity of Bristol, UK in 1990. Shestayed at H. H. Wills Physics Laboratory from 1990 to 1992 as a postdoc research assistant and then joined the Physics Department at the University of Nottingham, UK as a post-doctoral research associate from 1992 to 1994. In October1994, she joined the Physics Department of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as an assistant professor. Now, she is a full professor in Physics Dept. and the director of William Mong Institute of Nano Science and Technology of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
