Abstract:
Researches in his group focus on large scale applications which absolutely require superb material properties.In principle, CNT fibers can inherit the excellent material properties of CNTs. Physical properties of CNT fibers, however, have been reported much poorer than those of individual CNTs. Furthermore, some of the previous works could not be reproduced. We think the main problem in CNT fibers researches is too much interesting ideas, but lack of scientific depth. In this talk, their efforts to achieve high performance CNT fibers will be presented. Emphasis is on the logical reasoning and systematic investigation. A temporary conclusion is that inter-bundle voids are mainly responsible for the poor performance, and they should be removed as much as possible to acquire high performance CNT fibers.
