So, you've discovered something extraordinary and you want to tell the world about it. Why would you publish it in a Nature journal? Which one should you choose? Indeed, why has Nature spawned so many new titles? What is Nature Communications, and what is it trying to do that other Nature journal don't do already? What is Open Access? In this talk Ed Gerstner‘ll try to answer these and any other questions you have about getting published in a Nature journal. He'll also cover: what they look for in the papers that they consider for publication; the mechanics of how submissions are handled; how to decide if your paper could be for them; how to prepare a submission; and what to do when you think they (or their referees) have got a decision wrong. And, of course, what are they looking for in China?
About Ed Gerstner / 印格致
Ed joined Nature Publishing Group in 2002 as Editor of the Nature Physics Portal and NPG Materials Update. He's been an Associate Editor for Nature and Nature Materials, and helped to launch Nature Physics as its Senior Editor. In these various positions, Ed handled a broad range of physical science manuscripts, and is now responsible for forging closer links with the Chinese research community from Nature Communications' Shanghai office. Ed obtained his PhD in physics from the University of Sydney in 1997, and spent five years in research at the Universities of Sydney, Cambridge and Surrey, and at Philips Research Laboratories in Redhill.
